The MGIMO Completes First Open Courses on World Agricultural Markets

The Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) (MGIMO) held open courses that were organized by the Agroexport Federal Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia from 18 to 22 of December 2021. During those four days students from MGIMO and Russian agricultural universities were given author’s lectures on the features of global agrarian markets, trends and its impact on global trade, supply chains, and its transformation during the post-pandemic period.

The education program included two blocks: “World Agrarian Markets” and “The system of norms and rules of international food trade”. As part of the first block, “World Agrarian Markets”, an introductory lecture was delivered by Sergey Levin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. Then Ilya Strokin, Director of the Center of Competences in the Agro- Industrial Complex of Joint Stock Company KPMG, lectured about the importance of agro- industrial complex for the global economy, Evgeniya Serova, Director for Agricultural Policy of the HSE, described global food systems, and Dmitry Krasnov, Head of the Agroexport, told about Russia’s position in the global trade of agro-industrial products. Also, the audience was addressed by Andrey Kucherov, Head of the Department for Strategic Communications and Promotion of Agricultural Products of the Agroexport, Evgeny Zaitsev, Head of the Analytical Department of the Agroexport, Dmitry Gorin, Head of the Department for Analysis of Foreign Markets and Export Potential of the Agroexport, Andrey Dalnov, Head of the Center for Industry Expertise of Rosselkhozbank and Konstantin Korneev, Executive director of Rincon Management.

The second block – “The system of norms and rules of international food trade” – was devoted mainly to the legal aspects of foreign economic activity. Maksym Markovich, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Export Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, presented the main directions of Russia’s international cooperation in the agro-industrial complex sphere, including working on customs, tariff and non-tariff trade regulation, activities within intergovernmental commissions and international organizations. Dmitry Shestakov, Deputy Director of the Agroexport and Daria Zinovyeva, Head of the International Legal Export Support Department, prepared lectures on the WTO and supranational principles of regulation of trade of agro-industrial complex products, Andrey Kucherov and Vitaly Nagalin, Head of the Branch Development Department of the Agroexport told about on international benchmarking of financial and non-financial measures to support the exports of agro-industrial complex products. Sergey Golovanov, Head of the Department of Analysis of Trade Barriers and International Legal Support, Anatoly Cherenkov, Deputy Head of the Department of Legal Support of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Agroexport, Alexander Konthorin, Deputy Head of the Department of International Legal Support of Export of the Agroexport and Konstantin Karamyshev, Deputy General Director of Damate Group of Companies on Technical Regulation also became experts of the second block.

“The new training course which allows students to understand how modern food markets are organized and how they are evolving and regulating, was developed within the project ‘The Institute of Global Agrarian Markets’of the Program of Strategic Academic Leadership ‘Priority 2030’. The Agroexport has accumulated extensive competencies in the sphere of foreign trade and study of foreign markets, and we are ready to share them. We are pleased that the program has aroused interest, and look forward to the development and expansion of cooperation with MGIMO in this direction”, – Dmitry Krasnov, Head of the Agroexport, said.
